Sotogrande International School, founded in 1978, is a leading international,
British-style, co-educational, day and boarding school, offering a
high quality education to the international community of southern
Europe and northern Africa.
In 2001, the school moved to a new campus on the Costa del Sol,
with views of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding countryside.
The campus is designed to reflect the schools philosophy of
collaborative learning that develops active, high-achieving, life-long
learners, with an understanding and appreciation of the cultural
diversity.
The school applies innovative teaching and learning strategies
that prepare pupils for a technological, multicultural and global
society. The Primary School is preparing for implementation of the
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Secondary students
follow a programme based on the best of international, English and
Spanish curricula leading to IGCSE examinations in Year 11 and the
International Baccalaureate Diploma programme is offered in Years
12-13. There is a diverse extra-curricular programme, with many
activities making use of the wealth of nearby facilities.
School facilities include three teaching buildings surrounding
a central Learning Centre which houses a theatre, multimedia library
and research centre, computer suite, art and music studios, adult
education centre, cafeteria and main reception. The Early Years
building includes a specialist library and a playground onto which
each classroom has direct access. The Primary school is based on
the pod concept where collaborative learning is encouraged
through integrated projects. The Secondary school is also arranged
in pods, with each one reflecting a particular area of the syllabus.
The science pod includes three modern, well-equipped science laboratories.
A wireless communication network links the entire campus and many
classrooms have data- projectors and interactive white boards to
enable the use of technology as a tool for learning.
The schools commitment to outdoor and physical education
is reflected in the sports facilities which include a large multi-purpose
sports hall, 25m swimming pool and an all-weather sports pitch and
running track.
Boarders live in a modern, spacious boarding house on the campus.
Boarders have access to school facilities that provide excellent
opportunities for recreation and study.
The school is also authorized by the Spanish authorities and offers
a convalidated programme that allows students to prepare for entry
to Spanish universities. A programme of English language and special
educational needs support is offered.
