International College Spain, located eight kilometres north-east of
Madrid, is a co-educational, international school open to students
of all races, nationalities and religious beliefs. It was founded
in 1980 and exists to serve students aged 3 - 18 in the international
and local communities. Its aim is to deliver an international education
of the highest quality.
The schools academic curriculum is international throughout.
The three International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) programmes,
the Diploma (Grades 11 and 12), the Middle Years (Grades 6 through
10) and the Primary Years (Kindergarten through Grade 5), are offered.
Middle Years Programme Certificates are awarded at the end of Grade
10 and both the full IB Diploma and the schools own ICS Graduation
Diploma are awarded at the end of Grade 12. Students can also sit
College Board tests including PSAT, SAT and TOEFL.
The vast majority of ICS graduates are offered places at universities
worldwide, but particularly in Europe and North America. The programme
of studies is fully convalidated by the Spanish Ministry of Education
for both foreign and Spanish students and the school is accredited
by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (USA).
English is the language of instruction with Spanish and French
as the second languages (B). Dutch language (A) is currently offered
within the fee structure and fourteen other first languages (A)
are also available, but at an extra charge.
Students represent at least 46 countries, with the largest numbers
originating from Spain, the USA, Holland, the UK, Colombia, Sweden
and Japan. The teaching staff are similarly international in origin.
They currently represent 17 nationalities with the majority coming
from the UK, the USA and Spain.
The schools academic year starts in September and ends in
June with customary breaks for holidays in each season. The daily
timetable starts at 08:50 and ends at 16:10. The school has a wide-ranging
extra-curricular activities programme including many sporting and
cultural events and school expeditions.
