Hastings School is a fully authorised
British School founded in 1971 offering both primary and secondary
education to students of all nationalities.
Hastings School
is situated in a quiet residential area in the northern part of the
city close to three different Metro (underground) stops. It has a
split site location but the two buildings are very close to each other.
The facilities on both sites have been extensively improved and developed
during the past two years providing a stimulating and well resourced
environment for the pupils. In the Secondary department specialist
facilities include an information technology room, library art and
design room, laboratories and gymnasium.
Hastings School
offers a broad and balanced curriculum. Primary staff, while giving
specific attention to literacy and numeracy, ensures full coverage
of the National Curriculum. In the Secondary School a wide range of
subjects is available in arts, humanities and sciences leading to
examination at I.G.C.S.E. and `Advanced` level. The Spanish department
provides classes in language and social studies, based on the Spanish
national curriculum. Students are carefully prepared for university
with both the British and Spanish systems and careers advice is readily
available. As the school is fully authorised, pupils are able to validate
their studies. All staff place great emphasis on the
quality of relationships and the importance of mutual respect. The
friendly and quiet atmosphere is maintained through a discipline code
based on clear rules and procedures and positive rewards for good
behaviour. Education at the school is not seen narrowly in terms of
the obligatory curriculum and considerable attention is paid to other
aspects of school life; for example assemblies, visiting speakers,
conferences and outside visits. There is also a range of extra curricular
activities including judo, ballet, chess and guitar classes.
All the staff responsible for teaching the British National Curriculum
subjects are British trained and well qualified. The school day and
the year
Hastings normally begins during the second week in September and ends
the year in the third week in June. The school day is staggered to
allow parents to drop children off and pick them up at the respective
schools. I.e. The seniors begin at 8.45am and finish at 4.20 pm, whilst
the Infants begin the day at 9.00am and finish at 4.10pm.
Hastings offers pupils a secure and happy environment within which
to fulfil their potential and to prepare for the demands of a rapidly
changing society. The students are expected to work hard and the majority
of students work towards achieving nine IGCSE passes, five "AS"
levels and three or four full "A" levels. The expectation
is that 100% of Hastings pupils will attend university.
