EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Education is concerned with cognitive, cultural, moral, spiritual and physical development of all students. At Mayfair Academy we believe that this development is best fostered in an atmosphere where all students are respected, trusted, valued and encouraged and in which there is tolerance, care, security, praise and high expectations associated with clear learning goals.
The development of concepts, skills, attitudes and knowledge, which are the goals of the learning process, is facilitated through encouraging students to pose and solve problems and demonstrate responsible attitudes and behaviour. The students adopt a critical and self-evaluative approach to their work, build upon their own success, make constructional use of failure and reflect upon their own experiences. All of this assists in the character building of the student.
To this end, we plan for a range of learning skills, pay attention to the quality of the classroom environment and ensure that students' work achievements are valued and celebrated. Students at Mayfair Academy experience working individually, collaboratively and in groups which helps them to develop positive interpersonal skills and attitudes to themselves as learners.
Value is placed upon the partnership between home and school and the relationship between the aspirations of the school and those of the wider community. We are committed to the importance of each student s personal development and to meeting his or her needs as unique individuals.
In this way, each and every student who wishes to learn will be able to achieve his or her maximum potential in academic success.
